What exactly is anorexia and how can it be treated?



Anorexia is defined as the condition in which the appetite is weakened. Although the scientific term is anorexia nervosa, the non technical tern is anorexia. It is a popularly used term and this disease is gradually gaining ground in cities and towns due to excess nervous tension and pollution. There are few symptoms of Anorexia. They are the following:

The most common phenomenon is satiation of food once you eat them. This is quite a normal condition and is known postprandial anorexia. There are some disorders that cause anorexia. These are the following: anorexia nervosa, severe depression, cancer, Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, dementia, AIDS, Acute Radiation Syndrome, and chronic renal failure and impact of few drugs, chiefly stimulants and narcotics.

There are some disorders which are caused due to the environmental hazards. Anorexia is a common phenomenon in case of congestive heart failure, and this arises due to the congestion of the liver with venous blood.

If you have appendicitis in the abdominal region, or constant vomiting, then you may suffer from anorexia in near future. In the other way round, anorexia is a common phenomenon in appendicitis patients.

There are few medicines like antidepressants for which you may encounter anorexia as a side effect. Mostly those chemicals which belong to the phenethylamine family have strong anorectic properties. In order to suppress appetite, numerous people use this medicine when they suffer from anorexia. In those prescriptions, the medicines like Ritalin, Adderall, Dexedrine, and Desoxyn are actually prescribed.
